Staying Consistent in My MLM Home Business

The hardest part for me working my MLM business full-time from home, is staying consistent.

I find I want to work more than I am able to. For instance when I'd like to make phone calls my daughter suddenly needs my undivided attention.

I'm finding that being a stay at home mom and building a business, don't always compliment each other. I'm sure it's different for every mom, but I find it frustrating to hear over and over make more calls, talk to more people, connect more...

I don't get out that much and when I do, it's with an almost 3 year old in tow. So prospecting live, in my home town, is not a viable option for me. Making more calls is legitimate advice, yet it hasn't been working for me.

So as Jim Rohn says, paraphrasing here, "Don't talk about what you can't do, talk about what you will do if you can."

Here's what I know I can, and therefore will, do:

  • Buy leads online
  • Make the time to talk to at least 2 new people about my business every day
  • Make the time to follow up with 2 people each day
  • Read and/or listen to relevant motivational and MLM related information each day
  • Use my company's products and write my testimonial
  • Stay aware of my thoughts, and continue to refine my understanding of how our thoughts create our realities
  • Set clear goals and intentions for reaching them

There is a huge need for practical information for women who want to stay home with their children and build a network marketing business. Do I have to figure it all out and write that book myself? Or do you know of one you can recommend to me? Or maybe because every family is so different, that book can never be written...

Later...

Beware The Dream Stealers ~ Denis Waitley

Here's an excellent article from Denis Waitley about taking care when you ask for help and/or share your dream. Much better to get others talking about their dreams first, before sharing yours or your opportunity.

~~~Beware The Dream Stealers~~~
Although your own internal measurements are the most important, you will occasionally need to seek external feedback on your progress toward your goals. When you do, be sure it is from people who are truly interested in seeing you succeed. Don't seek feedback from fair-weather friends, competitive peers, or any person who doesn't have your best interests at heart. Neutral doesn't count. Get feedback from someone who is on your side but will still be objective and honest with you.
I've observed time and again that misery truly does love company. Jealousy creates some of the most miserable people I know. Surpass the achievements of your particular social crowd or your business colleagues, and look out for the slings and arrows of those who wish you were back where they are. You have to dodge the snide remarks and catty comments. Let them roll right off you. Don't internalize them. Only pay attention to feedback from those who have similar goals or who are working actively alongside you to achieve goals of their own.
Motives and fears run deep. Study them in others. The sympathetic fair-weather friend who supports you and comforts you when you're down, may like you best when you are in just that state: down and dependent.
Ultimately, nobody else is responsible for your life but you. Nobody else is accountable for your actions but you. Therefore, nobody's expectations for you and opinions about you are as important as your own. So make sure those take precedence in your mind over all others, and if you do need to consult with someone else, think very carefully before you choose exactly who.
Equally important, be prepared to sell your ideas to an indifferent world. As passionate as you are about your business and the fact that your products and services will have positive, life-changing benefits to everyone you meet, you are going to find resistance every time you tell your story. People are most interested in their own dreams and goals. They have difficulty believing that you have found a better way than they have to reach them. They are suspicious and guarded when anyone tries to sell them or change their minds.
Rather than have others steal your dreams by raining on them, ask questions and find out about their dreams before you launch into your sermon. People buy what they want first, then what they need. Find what turns them on. It may not be what turns you on. By helping others get what they want, you'll get what you want too!
Are You Courageous Enough to Pursue Your MLM Dream?
This quote from Denis Waitley really sums up what you go through when making an important decision, like starting your own home based business.
"No significant decisions -- personal or business -- have ever been undertaken without the attendant feelings of anxiety, uncertainty and guilt.
The commitment to wade through these inevitable crises is the meaning of courage. To gain courage is to change your beliefs about what you deserve and about what's possible with patience and persistence.
Get out of your comfort zone and stretch your limitations this week!"
-- Denis Waitley
What do you deserve from this life? Are you willing to feel uncomfortable while your beliefs catch up with your imagination? Will you let someone who knows nothing about MLM talk you out of your dream?
All the best,
Beware of Ponzi, MLM schemes!
Beware of Ponzi, MLM schemes!
This article contains a good explanation of the difference between legitimate MLM and Ponzi schemes. A must-read if you have any doubts about how to tell them apart.
Work-at-Home Scams: They Just Don't Pay!
National Consumer Protection Week is February 6 - 12
Distribution Source : PRNewswire
Date : Monday - February 07, 2005
This is a press release from the US Postal Service that will help you determine if you're looking at a scam or not.
They'll even send you a free DVD, "Work at Home Scams," visit http://www.usps.com/postalinspectors to request it. It's completely free.
Snipped from the story: "The newest scam is reshipping fraud. Work-at-home shippers are promised substantial amounts of money -- all they have to do is receive, repackage, and then mail merchandise to a foreign address. What the shipper doesn't know is that the merchandise was paid for with stolen credit cards. In effect, the work-at-home shipper becomes part of a fencing operation by receiving and mailing stolen goods. Reports to date indicate the scam has cost victims thousands of dollars, but as long as the ads appear, people unaware of the fraud continue to respond."
And they go on to say: "Other work-at-home jobs may involve product assembly, craft work, and multi-level marketing. Some ask victims to front money for products or more detailed instructions. Others require that you recruit other people to do the work -- which continues the fraud."
My comment here is that this is a somewhat misleading statement. It looks like they are saying ALL multi-level marketing is a scam. Untrue, so make sure to not be misled, even by those tyring to help you. You can get a solid overview of what multi-level marketing is by viewing this video: "Brilliant Compensation" at my website, MLM Work At Home.com.
Here's the link to the full article: Work-at-Home Scams: They Just Don't Pay! It's short and well worth the read.
Tax Benefits of Starting A Home Based MLM Business
Taxes, ugh! Tax planning makes most of our minds go numb. And paying taxes, well let's not talk about that. Or maybe we should? Just for a minute, because I actually have some good news for you. No I'm not kidding! Read on...
Here's the part you know:
Employee's W2's are beginning to arrive in mailboxes all across the country. People are being hit hard with the reality of how large a portion of their earnings are going to income and other taxes.
Here's something you may not realize (no pun intended):
The average American works until May 5th just to pay their taxes. And many Americans have little or no savings or investments for retirement.
And here's why I've brought up this uncomfortable topic at all:
Enter the savvy person who joins a network marketing business, or starts any home-based business this year. As a home based business owner, many of the things you are paying for now, become legitimate tax deductions.
Things like:
  • Your computer
  • Your internet connection
  • Your long distance and cell phone service
  • A percentage of your rent or mortgage
  • The initial investment or the start-up costs you pay to become associated with your preferred MLM / network marketing opportunity, or other business venture
  • Your vacations when combined with the appropriate amount of business
This concept is known as "redirecting expenses". So why aren't more Americans aware of this and starting more home businesses? My answer to that is we were not taught to do so. We were taught to get good grades, graduate and get a job, work hard and be rewarded by our employer. Ah, the good ole days! Life is asking more from us today.
According to Sandy Botkin, the author of 'Lower Your Taxes Big Time' and a former IRS Attorney, "You would be brain dead not to start a home-based business."
I agree to a point. Lots of people with perfectly healthy brains just don't know what they don't know. So I'd say, "You'd have to be brain dead 'if you know the potential tax benefits' and then choose not to start a home-based business."
Botkin goes on to say:
  • You will never get rich until you learn to get your taxes down to the legal minimum
  • There are 2 tax systems in this country - one for salaried employees, and one for small/home business owners
  • A home business will make you better off than a second income
  • Traditional job security has declined over the years and will continue to do so, making home businesses more attractive
  • You will probably save $2000 to $10,000 per year by starting your own part-time home business
So what is the answer? Yes this is kind of a trick question.
I may not have "the" answer for everyone, but I have "an" answer that will be right for many. Start a home based network marketing business this year. Starting your own home based network marketing business may be the very best asset that you'll buy in this lifetime.
I say start a network marketing business because of low start-up costs, some as low as $40, and the personalized training you will (ought) to receive from the person and team that sponsors you. You will have a learning curve to go through to start making money, so it can be beneficial to not have a large up-front expense to deal with while you're learning.
It used to be that MLM or network marketing was better suited to those outgoing, super people-person types who loved nothing better than to approach every person they encountered around town and tell them about their business. Or someone who was already well connected, and could build a large organization almost over night based on their established relationships.
These days, you can still be outgoing and connected and succeed in MLM, that hasn't changed. What has changed is, if you're an introvert, a home body, or just too busy living your life to attend hotel meetings and host home parties, you can still build a thriving MLM business.
With responsible use of the Internet, websites, discussion groups, blogs, the telephone and consistent action, you can work part-time on your fortune from the comfort of your home.
So if you're ready to start your home based business and you thought you weren't cut out for network marketing, consider taking another look. You may not have changed, but succeeding in this particular industry has.
And who knows, with all of the new deductions owning a home business provides, you may even look forward to tax time next year!
How To Select The Right MLM Home Business For You
If you are considering starting a home-based business this year, you're faced with essentially 4 choices.
You can:
  • Mortgage your home and cough up a huge chunk of money to start a new business from scratch.
  • Purchase an established business or a franchise with that $80 to 100k you have saved.
  • Buy a "turn-key" one person business for under $1,000 creating gift baskets or personalized novelties, for example.
  • Pay from $40 - $500 to join a network makreting organization with a sponsor who will help you work through your learning curve, so you get off to the best possible start.
This blog, among other things, will present the highlights of the MLM / network marketing industry. Let's start with what network marketing is NOT.
The network marketing industry has been around for about 50 years. In that time we have seen the con artists abusing the business model, and the great successes, and everything in between.
Network Marketing is not, nor should it be confused with the illegal pyramid scheme.
Pyramid schemes are called "Get Rick Quick" opportunities, but they are really scams. Watch out for claims of enormous overnight success. Average earnings in a true MLM business are typically modest at first. It takes time, effort and persistence to create significant residual income, just as any business would. And there is a learning curve, especially if you have never run your own business before.
A legitimate network marketing company does not make exaggerated claims of easy wealth.
A pyramid scheme operates by paying commissions to people to recruit other people. That is, profits are made from sign-up fees only. This practice is illegal.
A pyramid scheme does not have a real product for sale; the scheme itself is the product. A classic example is the chain letter - paper or more likely electronic these days - asking for money, and telling you to copy and send the letter to 10 other people to get paid yourself.
A legitimate company has a product that anyone can buy, even if they are not a distributor for the company. The products are often consumable and commissions are earned on sales volume only.
So how do you identify a legitimate MLM / network marketing opportunity?
Follow the money. What happens when you join? Is your sponsor paid even if you don't buy any products? Look for a product that interests you, that you think you could get excited and passionate about, and that pays you on sales volume, and you'll be fine.
Any other pay plan is risky as it will only be a matter of time before the company is shut down or forced to change there business practices. Neither of which is beneficial to you.
For someone motivated and willing to put in the time, effort, and persistence needed to achieve his or her financial goals, network marketing companies provide that opportunity. Developing a business owner mindset and applying a consistent effort, over the course of a year or two, can earn a decent second income on a part-time basis. Or you can spread your wings and achieve complete financial independence. The choice is yours.
The beauty of the MLM business model is that it is available to everyone. It's what you do with the opportunity is what makes the difference. You can earn little to nothing, or you can dig in and earn a very lucrative income, even achieve financial independence in 2-5 years with the right sponsor support, and the right company.
A Career Change to Network Marketing?
Professionals are making the career move to MLM, starting part-time while keeping the security of their current job, and achieving levels of success, in less time than was possible before the Internet. They are working from home, not attending meetings, not doing presentations in their living rooms, not stocking products in their garages. And definitely NOT bugging friends and family.
There is still no magic bullet, no sure-fire way to MLM success just because you have a computer and internet access. There is new information to digest, especially if you have been an employee all your life and have never owned a business. But it can and is being done, every day, by people like you.
The hardest part is selecting a company to represent and a sponsor to work with. In the past it was all about who you already know. Today, with the Internet added into the equation, it's all about who you attract. In other words, it's about you.
Just be yourself, and try not succumb to the hype and mania that this industry is bashed for on a daily basis. Network Marketing is a business, and if treated as such, you can reap ample rewards.
